Lighter Hellos

"Got a light?" and
muttered, "Thanks." are modern forms
of hello, but pleasantries
and small talk 
are just unmarked
dead ends.
So attempted conversations 
dissipate with the burning
tobacco and say goodbye
to could have been, never-will-be, 
friends.
