Sun-Spun and Smoldering

Sun-Spun and Smoldering

A Poem by Linda Marie Van Tassell
"

I see you as a phoenix rising ...

"

I see you as a phoenix rising

in the light of the evening sun:

strong, beautiful, uncompromising,

irreducible - you are the one.

I see you at the end of the world

with your wings open, joyous and free,

where the winds uplift and waves are curled

to whisper back to the open sea.

I see you sun-spun and smoldering

with your radiance shining above;

and whatever weight you’re shouldering,

it grows lighter in the hands of love.

I see you clinging to sunset cheek

in the warmth of the roseate light

in evergreen jeans on mountain peak

in swirls of mist of shimmering white.

I see you when moonlight bathes on trees

and fireflies glitter in silver glass

when sweet notes of jasmine scent the breeze

as it blows over the leafy grass.

I see you as your hand squeezes mine

in silent awe of the words I think,

and your smile is a glorious sign

of the bliss about to blaze and brink.

O! I see you and I see you still

as you walk along memory’s beach,

and I feel blessed as the blessings spill

beyond my grasp and just beyond reach.

I see you, feel you: ever to be.

The heart is a deep well filled with ink,

and I shall compose such filigree

for the mind to feast and mouth to drink.

I see you, love you and only you.

While I am living, will always be.

My God! If only you knew, you knew!

You would set sail and return to me.

This is love in its most wonderful and wistful sadness. You write about desire and tears yet there's laughter interlaced with memories colourful, moments ' .. in the warmth of the roseate light .. ' Your words are colours, your choice of phrases illuminate all the emotions a body can muster. 'I see you when moon light bathes on trees ~ and fireflies glitter in silver glass ~ when sweet notes of jasmine scent the breeze ~ as it blows over the leafy grass.' Now that is love and moresome more.

There is a breathless, inaccessible excitement here, a paean to a love yet to return from some distant adventure. It reads like an insight to the mind and emotions of one lost hopelessly in the flood of desire, love, worship and distress. The one question being - did he?

Exultant and rejuvenating paean!

It has the flowing rhyming feel of a song ballad lyric.

"Sun-Spun and Smoldering" gets an extra coil-kick from the hyphenate. That kind of alliteration summons Van Gogh vortical colors.

A Renaissance Faire classic, rejoining romantic longing and affirmation w/the power of greater nature.

Poetry has been my passion since I was about fifteen years old, and I love the structure of rhyme and meter moreso than just randomly throwing words upon a page without any form whatsoever. Whi.. more..
