Love Is The Shadow

Love Is The Shadow

A Poem by Linda Marie Van Tassell
"

I have slept with the night.

"

Love Is The Shadow

I stood there by the castle wall just crying in the rain
and watched you march off to war as I struggled with the pain.
My heart and soul, you turned to see as I called out your name.
In that moment, I knew my life would never be the same.

The wedding gown you swore I'd wear, it never saw the light.
An arrow pierced the heart I loved and ended its dread flight.
Your armored plate could not protect the heart I loved so well
and snatched my love away from me the moment that you fell.

Who could wash the stains away, the blood of all the dying,
the tears and heartaches of the loves left behind and crying?
I lived that life without your love and searched both night and day.
Still I look but have yet to find my love that went away.

Since that fateful clash of soldiers, I have slept with the night.
I've looked for you in every corner, turning left and right.
Shadows all surround me and flowers crumble in the dust.
I see your image, walking onward, as I know I must.

Your voice is one with the breeze, your laughter upon the air.
Your caress reaching out to touch, your fingers through my hair.
I want your love for my own and shall seek until I find ...
my only love, my heart and soul, that lives within my mind.

Poetry has been my passion since I was about fifteen years old, and I love the structure of rhyme and meter moreso than just randomly throwing words upon a page without any form whatsoever. Whi.. more..
