The Ocean Dreams

The Ocean Dreams

A Poem by Linda Marie Van Tassell
"

There is nothing like the heart that loves with deep devotion.

"

I wonder ... do you ever think of what the ocean dreams,
how she is a mixture of earth's daintily dancing streams?
The wind, the rain, and morning mist the beauty of it brings.
Each pearl becomes a sacred song upon her liquid strings.

She is proud and glorious, azure ribbon of the sands.
In vain we stretch to capture her within our eager hands.
She swells with passion, boundless, in a blissful symphony,
and sings the song of being in the language of the sea.

When I look upon her, she breaks the desert watch of time
and takes me with her to the place of unremitting clime.
Soft as down or cashmere silk, she falls within a shower,
ocean dreams of liquid dreams that fall upon the flower.

And does the ocean dream of earth and all that goes with it?
Does she dream a dream of us and hope that we will visit?
And does she dream of dancing days and moonlit perfumed nights,
or does she dream of mountain tops and conquering their heights?

First a trickle, a stream, a river seeking to unite,
the ocean swallows the sun; and she embraces the night.
She evaporates into the sky and falls down as snow
as the seasons slide along from the times of long ago.

Does the ocean dream of us, of all our liberty,
and does she dream of freedom when we think that she is free?
Is the ocean waiting and drawing near to let us go?
What I was or shall be and what I am I do not know.

I only know the ocean wakes in dreams on my pillows,
in the crescent of the moon and the rise of the billows;
and deeper than the darkness dripping down the darkened sky,
deeper still she is delving, buried deep within my eye.

Onward still, she is dreaming; and the sun is in the sky.
She must stay within her kingdom and watch us do or die.
There is nothing like the heart that loves with deep devotion,
deeper than the darkness at the bottom of the ocean.

Poetry has been my passion since I was about fifteen years old, and I love the structure of rhyme and meter moreso than just randomly throwing words upon a page without any form whatsoever. Whi.. more..
