Gold Glitter GoneA Poem by Linda Marie Van TassellThough lovers be lost, love shall not. ~ Dylan ThomasI watched you walk away, a trail of silence following your shadow. You never looked back. You carried in your hands the gifts that I gave, purchased months beforehand in wait for Christmas. But Christmas never came for the two of us. It slid into New Year’s and lost tomorrows. I could not understand your broken edges, how you carved out my heart and left me behind. I watched the sun go down, the gold glitter gone, all of the open doors closed in an instant. I am a shallow shell, hollowed by the love that I poured into you that poured out of me. I am no longer yours. I dig up the past and bury it again - slaughter of my dreams. I took you at your word. I believed in you, slipping over the brink into the abyss. You did not break my fall. I tore through the clouds and the eternal breath of awakening. I watched you walk away, my withering stare a sentimental ghost buried in the past. © 2023 Linda Marie Van TassellAuthor's NoteReviews
