Raindrops and Roses

Raindrops and Roses

A Poem by Linda Marie Van Tassell
"

One flower opens; another closes.

"

No one notices, and I don’t complain.

A shaft of sunlight peers through the steeple,

and a pleasant cloudburst of summer rain

is content to make a ghost of people.

I span the bridge that crosses the water

as it ripples into an endless sky

and spot a frolicking river otter

within the switchgrass that rises nearby.

It’s always the same in moments like this,

in a litany of raindrops and roses.

There is a sacredness, a gentle bliss.

One flower opens; another closes.

I draw a sketch on pink petal pages

so I can fly back on wings of recall

to gather the ash of faded ages

when both my memory and eyelids fall.

Evergreen echoes spill into the mist.

I walk the water with my eyes in tears.

I drown in the rush of the sweetest kiss

that has lasted me the measure of years.

Daylight fades into the garden of night,

into the breath of braided daisy chains;

but I remember the warmth and the light,

how we used to dance in warm summer rains.

Oh goodness, the feeling your lovely poem and fabulous image gave me will last within me for quite awhile.
I love these lines
but I remember the warmth and the light,
how we used to dance in warm summer rains.
Again, I love the way your poem made me feel...
closer to the world...well, I guess that dose't really make sense..does it? But closer to the energy the world..
My heart is filled with that feeling...

how beautiful are the concluding lines to this lovely poem.
"No one notices, and I don’t complain.

A shaft of sunlight peers through the steeple,"
I call these "moments" ... when only i notice something very special ... maybe it's just us poets that are ultra-aware

Your words have melted my need to sleep, your words have made me feel outside myself as i step into an empty space I have not right to share. If pain can be worded in an extreme but beautiful way.. it is yours.

'Evergreen echoes spill into the mist.
I walk the water with my eyes in tears.
I drown in the rush of the sweetest kiss
that has lasted me the measure of years'

This sort of pastorale, thoughtful visual writing is certainly your forte.

Some moments never fade with the passage of time or anything else for that matter. This beautiful poem posted with spectacular artwork captures warm summer rains in a very special way. Your imagery in this poem is as breath taking as that kiss must have been. Six stanzas of magic.

We are sometimes too caught up in the things we give too much credit to, for being the bigger things we worry about to even see the simplest moments that abound around us. We should pay more attention to the "little things" in life before we become a faded memory ourselves.
I like the idea of sketching with your writes as a memory aid for the far away days we rarely think of either, where prompts such as these may be required.
I doodle with my writes, that wouldn't mean anything to anyone other than me, like things I am thinking while writing. Mostly they are matchstick emojis, but running through my journal, I have pics of a bird on a ledge, that remind me of the time I was trying to think of a better word for a piece I was writing and turned round to see it and thought to myself "well, you either know but can't say or you are wondering why I an so engrossed in something that isn't bird seed"
It made me smile at least, mostly because the bird and the subject had nothing in common at all. 😊

warmth and light with raindrops amongst you.....a summer eve to behold; special moments to capture in your soul.....to watch the flowers open and then close and it repeats itself over and over in the summer rains....the beauty of mist when there are memories of bliss...it's a sacred time of year....
Lovely!

This poem is the quintessential romantic (in the literary sense) poem: nature is admired and is looked on as a source of inspiration, a heightened sense of emotions, and well-crafted language that elevates the reader from the concrete things described (flower, sky, water) to a higher plane of something transcendental where there is peace, joy, and tranquility. This is why poetry is written and read.

Now that was beautiful, a bit melancholy at the end but a wonderful scene created, a moment, a fragrance, a feeling, a rain shower to cleanse life. To dance in the rain, that is romance at its best. Who cares about the dampness when you have your love in your arms moving to the beat of your heart. And this line,
"Evergreen echoes spill into the mist." now you knew I would like that. Wonderful poetry my friend, just simply beautiful.
