I Will Not Revisit The Past (Quatern)

I Will Not Revisit The Past (Quatern)

A Poem by Linda Marie Van Tassell
"

You’re just another story I can’t tell anymore.

"

I will not revisit the past.

Some things are just not meant to be.

The years they all went by so fast.

The past is no refuge for me.

Your voice echoes across the line.

I will not revisit the past.

You have your way, and I have mine.

This dear parting will be our last.

Dark clouds of rain I have amassed,

moments of sunshine glimmers too.

I will not revisit the past

nor dream of a future with you.

There is nothing left for us now.

The sunny days now overcast.

No sometime, somewhen, nor somehow.

I will not revisit the past.

Author's Note

Linda Marie Van Tassell
Old loves are old loves. The past is the past. I learned the hard way that you can't go back. You can't love someone into loving you. If the past calls, hang up the phone. It parades itself with false promises and lies. It knows who you are. It knows how you love. It needs healing and knows you are the cure. In the end, however, it can never be. Trying to resurrect the past destroys every good memory you ever had. You will never be able to look back upon those memories with fondness again.

If the past calls, run.

But without the past there's no future. No learning. But you're right, if the past is chasing us we should run. Hard to keep it in its place. It's a good thing when it is on a shelf like a reference book ... opened when the need arises.

Nice rhymes that fit next to each other well. And don't attract attention, just smoothly end the line. Good poem!

Wise words. When it is over, there is little point in going back and reliving the relationship. It does take exceptional strength to leave it behind closed doors though. I enjoyed your stanzas very much Linda. The alliteration adds emphasis. A delight to have stopped by.

I guess I wasn't first in line. Darn, oh well, better late than never. Now your poem, you message is loud and clear and flows so melodically it could easily be taken for a welcome instead of a warning. but a warning it is and a good warning. Seldom is anything gained by visiting the past. Though we all do it, it is better to wave goodbye quickly and move on. Easier said than done, I for one know that clearly. Thank you for sharing this beautifully crafted and amazing poem. Your talent I believe is endless.

I kind of agree with your sentiments, there must be no looking back once a relationship has run its course. To return for a second taste when you already know that the flavours do not mix is just setting ourselves up for pain and misery. We have to know when to walk away and close that door behind us forever. Unfortunately many can't help but return and find themselves in a world of hurt. The repetition used reinforces the resolve in your words.

Thank you, Makhabat.
This is such a beautiful poem of resolve to read. When spiritual strength combines with sheer skill of words, such poetry is created. Kudos Linda! 💜

Thank you, Divya.
we just have to understand when it is over...sometimes we don't...and we waste months and years not giving up on something so futile.

I enjoyed the read, Linda. Something is going on with the site and it won't let me even access my own writing. It's blocking other writers from my page etc. I'm unblocking them when I find them. I'm hearing from other writers here experiencing similar issues. Some of them have pages that won't even load. Relic has closed his account. Miss Sharon contacted me and wanted to know if I had similar issues. I have no idea what is going on. It's weird though. A writer told me today they could not review my work because they thought I had them blocked but I was able to review them and leave comments on their work. Have you had any issues? I see it's letting me comment here. At least I hope this will post.

Liked very much the repetition of "I will not revisit the Past." It's not only good in the literary sense, but a solid philosophy as well. The past is a dead zone, kept alive by the needy attention. The only thing as bad is
obsession with the future, which is just as unreal. The only place where we are truly alive is the present moment.
