Lanterns in the SkyA Poem by Linda Marie Van TassellIn Memory of Cora Louise (Snavely) Linkous – 1948 – 2023 (age 74)You lit the world with your luminous smile. Your laughter was song-like, rhythmic, and pure. You took certain care with your looks and style, bright as a lamp light but shy and demure. You had a nature that was all your own, a wistful way of staring into space as if contemplating the great unknown as sunrise and moonrise caressed your face. You had a heart that was bursting with love. Everyone knew you as a dear, sweet friend. Crafted with grace, you always rose above and held your head high till the very end. I know how you suffered. I know. I know! You closed weary eyes and drifted away. With one last breath, you finally let go. Heaven welcomed an angel on Monday. Today started off with gray clouds and rain then the sky drew back her ash-woven hood, turned her face slowly and smiled once again as sunlight spilled over evergreen wood. We planted roses to honor your name. The whispering wind waved one last goodbye. The world has changed, and it’s just not the same. A thousand lanterns rise to fill the sky. © 2023 Linda Marie Van TassellAuthor's Note
