See You In The LightA Poem by Linda Marie Van TassellIf you are a broken person, heal yourself before inviting someone into your life. No one needs to be cut by your jagged edges. No one can love you whole again. You need to fix yourself. This is the end I wish I could forget - the rejection, the loss, what used to be, the memories, the years filled with regret, and the shadows that forever haunt me. I loved you more than I thought was able. You loved me less so you had to pretend. Your wounds were deep and irreparable. Once a tree has fallen, it does not mend. I gave you my smiles, my hopes, and my heart. Every word spoken was honest and true. No time, no distance could keep us apart. I travelled far and further to see you. I always believed, held tight to my dreams, but a broken arrow has never flown. I always loved you to greater extremes, but your heart was hardened and turned to stone. I held you within for so many years. I closed my eyes to remember your face. Your words still linger, your touch reappears, but her memory has taken my place. She splintered your soul into bitter reeds. Your house was saturated with the rain. I could never remove her ghost, your needs, the lockheartedness of anger and pain. You made me the villain of your story, but you have to sleep with the truth at night. God knows your soul and brandishes glory. The truth and I will see you in the light. Paint me in crimson with black in my veins. Make me a lighthouse whose lamp has grown dark. Call me whatever and gather your gains. Be like a dog and continue to bark. My eyes have been opened within the mud, no longer blinded by innocent trust. My truth is my love, and love is my blood till it mingles with space and time and dust. I always adored you, thirsted for you, thought you were more than you could ever be. The mistake was mine like the sky is blue, like it has now fallen inside of me. You had no intent to make me your wife. You took advantage of my love for you. “If it kills me, we will have a good life.” Your words were hollow, deceitful, untrue. You stepped on your cat and broke his poor leg. You had no money, savings, nor credit. You never once had to ask, plead, or beg. Your vain ego, I happily fed it. Your promise to pay was so commonplace. A liar feels nothing, no guilt, no shame. A bum is a bum; he wears a proud face. He looks just like you and shares the same name. A lien on your wages has cost me more. I received nothing, not one red penny. I will move on, and you will remain poor. I will find love while you won’t have any. So, you love the one who hurt you the most, who broke everything in a thousand ways, who possesses your soul like a pale ghost until the end of your very last days. I have given enough; I have no more. I cast a stone into the bed of night. Never call me; never knock at my door. The truth and I will see you in the light. © 2022 Linda Marie Van TassellAuthor's Note
