Pale Shadow

Pale Shadow

A Poem by Linda Marie Van Tassell
"

I made you my sun, and I became your shadow.

"

I made you my sun, and I became your shadow.

You were bound to the heaven’s eternal display.

I was a whisper, that whispering, whispered so

low that no one noticed when I whispered away.

Insidious ghost! You will not leave me alone.

I hold a prayer’s breath in the back of my throat

and weep our story as the leaves shrivel and moan.

Their skeletal wings sailing on the wind emote.

The space between us is born of departed dreams,

an empty bowl of silence now drained of my love,

where real is unreal and nothing is what it seems

and something borrowed shines on me from up above.

This mortal coil unwinds; I lived the fairytale.

I lived to love you for the briefest. Now I die;

and ever drawn like sunset, life is ended - pale

in plaintive echoes of the shadow of good-bye.

The image, the melancholy music are both a perfect accompaniment to your words of longing, of leaving, of the echoes in the shadow of a good-bye. To die after giving completely of self; you express it with perfection!! The weeping shall last through many a full moon, through many changing of the guards, through many concerts given for those now passed on!

This is very thought-provoking and touches a chord a bit too familiar. Getting lost in another is so easy to do. ~Jim

Heartbreaking sadness in every line. A woman possessed by a man who has left her. "an empty bowl of silence now drained of my love" Brilliant line! Lydi**

Deeply haunting poem... beautifully written despite the sadness it expresses... when we give ourselves completely we can lose ourselves as an individual... I have been there.

When in loving someone unconditionally then it turns out they never gives back. Or is this a story of loving the unknown?
