A Drop In The Ocean

A Drop In The Ocean

A Poem by Linda Marie Van Tassell
"

I drowned in the summer of eighty-four.

"

A drop of me in the ocean of you,

I drowned in the summer of eighty-four.

In the rose of pink and the sky of blue,

I opened myself as you closed the door.

I dared to dance on the edge of your name

and struck my heels against the setting sun

as the stem of innocence burst in flame

and two hearts for a moment beat as one.

I caressed the curve of your dimpled smile

and attentively gazed into your eyes

so still in the moment, so breathless, while

my heart was suffused with euphoric sighs.

There was blood in the sky and Purple Rain

and sad doves crying who suffered with ease

whose tear-stained wings were uplifted in vain

beneath the shadow of tenebrous trees.

The fireflies flickered, and we watched their light.

They numbered the pages of poetry.

I flowered beside you the palest white

never knowing you were a part of me.

After all these years, I am haunted still,

haunted by sweet, suffering devotion.

Though I wish it, I do not have the will

to be more than a drop in your ocean.

Such a fascinating piece of work. as a hopeless romantic I give it 10 out of 10 sighs.
I love the prince reference with purple rain snd doves crying.

Dear Linda Marie Van Tassell,

Dear Lady! The first three verses are devastatingly beautiful. Just simply wonderful. And the whole poem is full of passion. This is a most excellent write.

Greatly enjoyed. This warrants a 98% rating, the highest I have ever given. I'm still waiting to find a 99% after all these years, and 100% is impossible as no poem is perfect. But your poem is getting close.

Kudos!

A very deeply passionate, poetic proclamation of pure love and perfect devotion, Linda Marie Van Tassell. There was, I sensed, a bit of despair, despondency and loneliness; a touchingly poignancy which I felt only enhance the eloquent words you've chosen to convey its message. Some very good examples of alliteration abound, as in "ocean of you", and "Fireflies flickered." As all romances usually do, this fades beautifully into into melancholy musings in your final stanza.

All-in-all, a very touching and lovely conceived piece of poetry.

Sadly those idyllic, blissful summer days don't last forever and quite often that new found, swooning romance, fades with the setting sun as the days grow shorter and the chill of the coming new season can be felt!

A bittersweet, soulful poem, smoothly penned with passion and pathos combined!

Elegant eloquent delineation of classic Pisces. Tho' it may refer to a finite subject of romantic devotion, it might well refer to the very Divine at the end. If we ever manage to align romantic devotion to spiritual awareness and sustain it, we've grounded our sensibilities thoroughly. Through all our relative drownings, Love ever resurrects.

I could picture the dimpled face of youth and the blossoming of a romance that would never quite be in full bloom. To be a drop in someone's ocean is better than to never have any impact on their life at all. Hindsight is 20/20 though, isn't it? The poignancy of this one is intense...and the rhyming is great. I liked the photo you chose to accompany your words too. Great package. Lydi**

Poetry has been my passion since I was about fifteen years old, and I love the structure of rhyme and meter moreso than just randomly throwing words upon a page without any form whatsoever. Whi.. more..
