A Broken Friendship

A Broken Friendship

A Poem by Lindsay T

We started off together, a fresh page in the book,
Even at six years old, our friendship never shook.
We entered first grade hand in hand,
Two best friends, venturing into a far-away land.
A place where finger painting was a talent that shone,
And I never imagined it would all be gone.

Those first few years were the golden ages,
A brand new start, the book's very first pages.
You always understand me, you were always so kind,
It was as if we shared the exact same mind.
Every action, every sound, every habit, I knew,
Because I saw, right away, that it was you.

But as we grew up, people wanted to know,
Were we dating, on hold, what was the status quo?
It was hard to explain, at least to them,
That a boy and a girl could just be friends.
And friends we were, the very best kind,
I never knew you would leave everything behind.

When we turned twelve, you spent time with those boys,
With the baseball caps, and the slouched-back poise.
It was as if I didn't even exist,
And suddenly, my world was clouded with mist.
What did I do? What had gone wrong?
He was like my brother for so, so long.

Thirteen and you started dating that girl,
The gymnast with the perfect blonde curls.
I shouldn't have been jealous, but my envy was green,
I wanted to spit fire, I felt so mean.
I saw you two walking together all the time,
Hard to believe that once, you were mine.

Now you won't look at me when we pass in the halls,
But I still do; my feet can't help but stall.
Your bright green eyes, your tall, slender frame,
I'll always feel comforted, just saying your name.
I guess I'm just hoping that one day you'll see,
You and I were meant to be.

Lindsay,
Great presentation of a real world situation that happens everywhere in the world.
It may happen with any girl or a boy.
I am so happy with the amazing narrative that I will share this with all sites I am interacting with.
Congratulations!!!
Best regards,
Zainul

Hell this is close to perfect to me. The rhyme scheme you used worked great for this write. This was very heartfelt and let me tell you, this boy doesn't realize what he's missing out on, friendship or even more! Very good job, bravo. One of my favorites.

This was a very good poem, and I'm sure I won't be the only who will relate to it. Great job!

I had this once too. Annoying isn't it? Like you just want to go up to the person and ask what happened, just so you can get a straight out answer. Ugh. I like this poem for that reason; it says what pretty much everybody who goes through this wants to say. I put chapter two of my story up, and I'm also waiting for chapter eight of yours. :P You're really good at this.
