all anyone could ask for

all anyone could ask for

A Poem by Linda Crawford Ortiz

You would not overthink me
You would not underestimate me
I do enough of both for each of us
I am potential
Wound like a mainspring
So tightly that I cannot move
You would not say you understand
You would not advise me
Rather you would hear me in your heart
And feel me within your mind
But if you did not know me at the start
You cannot know whether I am blind
To the ways of the world
Or if the world is blind to me
I feel both invisible
And invincible
The moment defines which
And if I cannot keep up with my moods
How can you
Accept me not for what I am today
Accept me only for what I can be tomorrow
Listen to what I may say
Choose to believe me
Or not
But
Do not judge me
Substitute my life for yours
If only momentarily
And see if you don't feel
That we are the same
Overthought
Underestimated
Wrongly judged
Seldom seen for what we truly are
