Hearts Song

Hearts Song

A Poem by Donald Meikle

tree frogs sing to each other

They stop

Cheepers sing back up

Predawn chatter

To herald a Spring day

Head burrows into pillow

A final useless try

The light goes on

She has risen

Another morning beckons

Soon birds will join the chorus

As does the hungry cat

The smell of coffee

wakes my appetite

These are the strokes of mundane

Beating time to love

In  rolling symphony

As we sip and ponder

I love how you manage to blend song and time in all your poems. THis is so vivid and delightful, giving me a sense of early morning.

A lovely acoustic morning. If could paint all that.

Those first awakening thoughts of the day. Wonderfully told, in incomparable verse.

what a small cute and precious gift to us. the last stanza is stunning. I can read and read again. the air was cool and deep the memory, the night was in its last stride.
