Flight Plans

Flight Plans

A Poem by Donald Meikle

Caressing shadows in the glare of Fancy's foggy runway,
Expectant exultation holding breath behind my throat.
Soon the rush of living dream, in shiver singing soar,
Will carry me to slowered time, and bended light of more,
Free to twist, and twirl, and dive, through thoughts, so almost seen
Arranging them like firework lights, in endless nights,
To wake, and entertain.
Fancies dancing colors, short-circuiting my brain.
The laughing downhill running joy, of sweet forever young,
Stays yet with me so faithfully,
A song upon my tongue.

Wow, there is something really haunting in this poem. The dream's realisation beckoning, exquisite. I loved the lines: 'carry me to slowered time, and bended light of more,' 'arranging them like fireworks in endless nights' and then that:

'The laughing downhill running joy of sweet forever young
stays with me so faithfully,
a song upon my tongue'.

Delightful, you use so many timeframes in this, and engage so many senses. I don't know why, I see all your poems as perfect, but I think this poem is slightly elevated above many of your others. This and Horse Sensations as well as one about sailing I must have read 2 and a half years ago now, sorry I can't remember the title, are my favourite poems of yours!
