blowing on embers

blowing on embers

A Poem by Donald Meikle

Absent friends are with me yet
In memories of sweet regret
Familiar gestures deja vu
I touch a leaf remember you
Laughing dancing swinging free
Beneath a shady Summer tree
Do you so oft remember me?
Golden dreams of yester
Drifting through my mind
Wispy gossam bless her
Touching shadows all I find

It seems the poem is a tribute of persons admired and while trying to manifest them they appear in front and is not able to see them.

"To absent friends." A toast I have often made. Absent friends are always with us, as long as we want them to be. A warmly written poetic piece.

The changing of the rhyme scheme halfway through was a very nice touch. A beautiful piece, the word choice and rhymthm were very well done.

'gossam' is a new word to me, my guess is its meaning is similar to gossamer something very light and delicate like our thoughts. i liked how this was a mixture of memories and reflections, there is sadness in this but it is poetic sadness- the sort of sweet melancholy poets particularly enjoy, this is also the kind of rhyme i like, subtle, very free! fantastic.

The feelings in this beautiful write are nostalgically sound, it's simple but it doesn't need to be complicated, the subject isn't complicated why should the poem be, this is a carefree moment allowing for memories to take us to a sweet place , a safe place for a moment, I enjoyed.
