Strawberry Field's Child

Strawberry Field's Child

A Poem by Donald Meikle

Strawberry Field's Child
Hey little girl behind blue curtain windows of despair
Would'st care to dance?
Mayhap delight in sweet romance
Of rhythmic stepping joy
Who put that silvered sunlight in your hair
Some naughty boy?
Would that I could closer feel
your hammering heart against my own
Close your eyes and listen to the living music play
Allow yourself to float upon the air tis oh so pleasing there
Let Summer birds sound glory in your soul today
Fill yourself with wonder and breathe sweet memory
Let hands of yesterday caress crinolin skin
Drink in feelings and be
once again refreshed
Tis Nature letting you be blessed
Forevers child of wonder
dancing to the thunder
in your breast
Spinning winning yet again to feel
Sweet tender soft fulfillment
of your loving innocence
In secret Summer dance from rocking chair
Let sunlight in those sparkling eyes
Rewarm your soul with living light
And shine your silver hair

Strawberry Fields is still there I've swung on the gate
(So is Penny Lane)
