Yet Afloat

Yet Afloat

A Poem by Donald Meikle

sometimes we find the words

like brown water Mersey floating turds

Bouncing and bobbing in wasted time

Sometimes they even rhyme

and found they float away again

To fill another's wayward when

and through it all I dinnae ken

How they can cause the ways of men

who sing and dance in flowing time

and even find the time to rhyme

and fill another's mind

You go all over your experience to create something like this. Mine too as it happens and as you know.

I imagine that every poet ever born considers their latest effort to be no more than dulled average at best. We are convinced, without really knowing why or how, that somewhere inside us is the masterpiece that will move mountains and be read down through the ages, we become our own worst critics.

Truth is, every poem, no matter how humble it seems, is a triumph; It's why we write.

Loved this. Beccy.

For some people, it is a struggle to write, others are just born into it. My mom and grand ma were poets, I was rhyming at 3 mom said, so I guess for me it lies inside of my heart from birth. Valentine

because, my friend, words are magic. They just are. And when ya weave them right way, they become good like music.
