Delectability

Delectability

A Poem by Donald Meikle

It's almost Spring in a couple days it'll be March.

The tomato plant is covered with new tiny tomatoes

It's pushed against the skylight

All the flowers have been vibrated by an electric tooth brush and shaken by softly trembling fingers at least a dozen times.

There are over three dozen tiny tomatoes. We have tried to count them daily. Some Three maybe four are full size (Almost an inch long)  We've eaten at least ten, but that was a while ago. Our attempts at pollination are responsible for all the hanging fruit now.

This one plant standing seven feet high hangs on string from the skylight and gets us through the coldest snowy days with it's constant climb of life.

The porch is full of her plants from herbs to jade trees and one seven foot cactus

that has been felled only once by the last cat.  She left us Thanksgiving Day.

When the tomatoes are ripe they are a deep chocolate red and the taste is unmatched by any other tomato.

   Come on Spring!!!
