Rhododendrons

Rhododendrons

A Poem by Donald Meikle
"

A sunny afternoon

"

Sun, shining on spots of red in slow opening buds,

Showing up the lighter newer green of sprouting twigs

Shadows, reshaping leaves in chorussed breezes.

The mottled brown of sturdy standing branches

Mingles with the reds and yellows of frost dead leaves

Soon all will be buried in beauty of blooming

But now the promised wonder holds splendor easily

In simple spontaneous survival

'Mingles with the reds and yellows of frost dead leaves'

we get gorgeous rhododendrons in the spring at a local park, they really are very beautiful plants. This has a nice visual quality to it, descriptive but not overly. i liked the choice of language and image. fantastic.

Somehow, the potential - those first small signs - illuminated by the early spring sun lifts the spirit just as much as the full explosion of growth, doesn`t it? Great, mate. P.

Reading this, I remember the beauty (hope) that can be found in even the most trying situations. Lovely intouch-ness with the natural world.

like the rhody, during the winter of our discontents, we have to pull back to the hard wrought basics and hunker down during the cold seasons
