vantage points honed

A Poem by Donald Meikle

once seen with designer eyes a boat will never be the same.

the perfectly comfortable lines of a cat boat

bring to mind a curled felinity of unwasted effort

the solid blunted lines of a harbor tug

make bulldogs seem unstubborn

How must a fireplace or stone arch be seen by a mason?

What does an artist see in jet stream brush strokes?

There is a solid satisfaction in knowing these points of reference

and I wonder how a tepee would have inspired

Christopher Wren.

I enjoy the ride you take me on here, Don. The inspiration of classic shapes of objects, of creatures, of words is a fascinating theme, but in this poem I`m looking for more from you. You`ve whetted my appetite....and I want it to go on, expounding and expanding. What about it, mate? P.

Carry this a few steps further... we've seen the world with our own eyes and life experience. Lived "hurry up and wait". We've lived through as those with "designer eyes" decided how things were, are, and will be. How inspired are you by our now? - curious me.

This poem hit the spot. I've just been down to the docks to look at boats. There is a solid satisfaction in knowing these points of reference...knowing craft like a craftsmen or artist. I did get a little caught up in line 6, and had to read it a couple times, but that could just be my reading. It might be cleaned up a bit by making a choice, stone arch or fireplace, but it’s such a small thing, in an otherwise perfect poem. Well done.
