Morning sunstepsA Poem by Donald Meiklea lilting reverberation of dancing leaves in Summer breeze. As shadowy figures shine and disappear in waving trees Squinting eyes search to find a screaming red tail hawk Perched on a high pine bough and looking down Soft sandaled feet wince on small free rolling stones Trying to only walk in morning sunlight for the warmth The hawk swoops by and hesitates at high whistled call Before another pull of wings takes him away to seek some prey Tree shadows close the road. I turn about, sipping second cup of coffee from a favorite cup. It was my mother in law's favorite too. Back home I pour another then we sit to watch the ever warring flights Of humming birds. Something my mother in law never saw © 2012 Donald Meikle |
