Reflective deflections

Reflective deflections

A Poem by Donald Meikle

To sit, alone. in quiet contemplation.

Ignored by passing breeze of rain.

Rolling down un-feeling cheeks,

Into tired and wrinkly nape of sodden neck.

What matters now when memories are all

Is that another echoed scream of lonely hawk

Or did a rain wet branch scrape another in the wind

On such a day in such a wind came war

To wake a dreaming child

And Night was bright as day in fear and dread

As eyes were filled with pieces of the dead

Creating nightmares to clatter by for years inside a head

It's only memories now

My head's all wet

It's time to stand  and once again forget.
