chapter 9

"Hi Nate how are you." Lily chirped into the phone.

"OK i guess." he said glumly.

Lily tilted her head she turned away and looked at the long complicated song the teachers assistant handed her. Josh had recently started the easy job so he wouldn't have PE. All he did was sit there and flirt to most the girls in the orchestra. Lily eyebrows were pressed together in concentration. She grabbed her highlighter and quickly highlighted all the repeats coda's anything really that was important especially when the time signature changed. Lily sat back and looked at the now colorful copy of the classical song by Beethoven Cello Sonata No. 1 in F major Op. 5 No. 1. Lily could here the soft 'shat' murmured from Nate's mouth as he looked at the 7 pages of cello music closely.

Lily giggled as she played freely and smoothly on the new cello that the school had gotten a few days before. She could here Nate Trying to keep up with her in the complicated piece. The were sitting in lily's living room. Victor sat on the couch. Lily played the same 4 measures so Nate could here how they were supposed to sound. She sighed as Nate made a screeching sound from he usually sad sounding instrument. "How about we play cello's Oh Lay'. Your horrid playing is bringing me down. She looked at Sarah as she walked thought the door. "Can you play with us on the piano." Lily said pleading with her eyes. After playing thought the fast paced but cheery song lily told Nate that he could go. After Nate left lily sat beside victor and snuggled into his warm awaiting arms.

"Um should i go" Sarah said loudly. After lily said no she sat on the opposite couch.

"Um lily can i talk to you in the kitchen real quick." Victor said quickly. They walked into the kitchen. "Lily i don't know how to tell you this but i have cancer. My mom took me to get checked because i had a weird lump on my neck. The test results came back positive for cancer."


In that instant lily's world fell apart. She sobbed Sarah ran into the kitchen when she heard lily fall down. Lily awoke in the hospital a few hours later. The doctor told her she had fainted but Sarah and victor had called 911 because they thought something was wrong. The doctor left. Lily saw Nate run in.

"What happened." Nate demanded. Lily broke into tears as she told him about victor having cancer. All the color drained from his face. She told him all she knew which wasn't much. Nate climbed onto the small hospital bed next to her. Victor was already in the small chair   Victor was fast asleep so it didn't take long for Nate and lily to do the same.
