"Jade... Jade...Jade"

"huh ?" she asked looking round

"wow you cant just space out like that"

"sorry"

"what was I talking about ... oh yeah and then he..." Jade then spaced out and then she was at her house and her friend Lindsey had walked away.

She walked in to the old house and noticed that her dad was at the bar again. He was always at the bar. Jades dad was the town drunk and so he spent most of his time at the bar getting drunk.Jade sat down at the table. Suddenly the door slammed open.

"Hey" her older brother Justin walked in and slammed the door

"Hi how was the fence guarding going?" she asked

"A zombie tried to get in but luckily Charlie stopped him."

"cool... cool"

"How was school?" he sat down at the table next to her

"Well first hour was boring and second hour was boring and third hour was boring and fifth hour was boring and sixth hour was boring and seventh hour was"

"No wait let me guess... boring"

"CONGRADULATIONS YOU WIN THE PRIZE OF THERE IS NO PRIZE"

"HECK YEAH"

The door opened and Jade's dad walked in. Suddenly everything was quiet. Her dad stumbled in the door and almost fell onto the floor.

"hey Jake and Jane" he said drunkenly and fell on to the floor

"is he okay?" Jade asked

"I don't know" then their dad started snoring

"He doesn't even remember our names any more"

"He needs help"

"If you want I could start staying home from school and"

"no you need to go to school remember we talked about this"

"fine"

She walked up to her room leaving Justin to deal with their father. After years of living in a town where people were fenced in from the zombies. she just wanted to disappear.

"Did you hear a bout the kid who they found at the fence yesterday" Lindsey said the next day at school"

"no" Jade said walking through the lunch line

"well I heard that he was supposed to be here today" she looked around "that's him" she pointed to a boy walking to a table and suddenly all of the kids at the table got up and left

"poor him" Jade walked over to his table "is it okay if I sit here?"

"it's fine"

"By the way I'm Jade"

"I'm Dan I'm kind of a new kid"

"well let me just say that the only thing that is in this lunch room that is safe enough to eat is anything that is a sandwich or in a package"

"oh thanks"he let out a shy giggle

"No problem"

"so the pizza isn't good"

"The pizza caused Alex to throw up last week"

"oh" then the bell rang

"Well it was nice meeting you"

"It was nice meeting you to"

A few hours later Jade was walking home from school and when she came up to her house there were police men. She pushed through a large group of people. When she could finally see what as happening she saw her dad being arrested. Justin walked over to her.

"where are they taking him?"

"to the other side of the fence"

"with the robbers and murderers and zombies ... but he wont survive"

"I know"

"I'm going with him"
