Completed Dreams

Completed Dreams

A Poem by SpiceCookie
"

Years ago, they said I was cute...

"
Years ago,
they said I was cute.
They told me I was too optimistic
and too full of dreams
and too naive to be real.
I had told them that I would scale every mountain
and build a snowman for every child on the earth
and dance through the forests of my motherland.

Now,
look at me,
my sagging shoulders
from climbing all those mountains,
my numb ears
from dragging myself through the cold,
my rough hands
covered in blisters
from the wood
and the rock,
and see, these scars come from the thorns.
And look at the bags under my eyes;
I lug them around,
but they are packed with not clothes nor food nor dreams
but memories,
because I have done all the things I said I would do
that they said I could not do.

And now I look back
and I am tired,
but also so, so proud.
