Faerie TreeA Poem by SpiceCookieIn the new joy of spring stands a tree.
In the new joy of spring
stands a tree. Rough bark, slender branches. She dances in the rain and bathes in the sunlight. Her heart is filled with the warmth of love, with the hope of new dreams, with the promise of kindness. She stands on her tiptoes and reaches for the sky, her trunk steady and her roots strong. Her branches waver in the breeze, flexible and resilient. Her boughs are dotted with tiny gold and orange leaves, fluttering in the wind as if fairies were dancing at her fingertips. She's young, novel, pristine, and proudly flawed. She has seen the harsh colds of winter, the humid heat of summer. Her body is covered in her scars, her ridges and blisters and cuts. There is not a place where she has been perfectly made, where she is smooth and soft and sleek. But that is why she is pure, why she is herself. Now it is spring. The snow has melted, the daunting hot rays of the sun in the far future, for now the sun is warm and joyful. The children are laughing, the winds are singing, the earth is settling. And the faerie tree still stands tall.
