times and times and no equal rights

times and times and no equal rights

A Poem by J. C. Alvares

How can we look at the mirror
and smile when there’s so many eyes
that look at the sky
with no hope,
no believing,
people who see no stars
for tears and blurred sights
let no room for faceless cries?

Why do waves recall
with closed eyes,
these broken wings
for no feeling, no helping,
no hand were offered
to steady and carry
these hearts that no longer beat
away from threats,
away from harm, away from fear?

What are these things?
What are these things?
What are we wasting,
What are we taking
and breaking
and hating?
What is this life
what is this lie,
tell me again:
why are we here?
