Dear Beloved,

Dear Beloved,

A Poem by Liliana Wolfsong
"

This is a poem about love and the fear/ acceptance of death.

"

The blinds stay drawn, the air thick

Thick blood, thick bones, thick morals

Pressed heavy on my soul to rest

It never lays to rest

He is not afraid to call to me

Never weary to place

An empty hand upon my shoulder

To beckon- as old friends are one to do

In silence,

I fear this relationship has been soured

Milk out long past its expiration date

It does not matter,

These fears so fleeting

These souls so prone to take flight

To re-enter the Earth

And if tonight

In the thickness of cigarette smoke,

I should meet an old friend

I will ask for one more drink before I go

I will paint my lips crimson

Kiss your pillow

And hope that you forgive me

If I should not be granted my request,

I will leave to you all of my poetry

You see every last one is a love letter to you.

And… if you do not believe me,

Dear Beloved

You are the never ending energy beneath my flame

The flush of color to my cheeks

The upturn of my lips

You make this coldness all the more bearable

Dear Beloved

Forever and always.

And if tonight you should meet an old friend,

Do not fret.

Sweat soaked under the stark light at the petrol station,

Thick oil, thick skin, thick emptiness

Silence

Breathe, the scent of destruction and exhaust fumes

Feel, the weight of blood money against your leg- heavy

Look to Mother Moon

Remember me,

Crimson kiss across a cold pillow

Bid your goodbyes to the green of the Earth

Spread your smile wide as if it were wings across your shoulder blades

Welcome Him,

Your old friend, a twisted lover

Forever and Always Beloved.

Hey any comments or suggestions? Thanks!

Alternative ending after "Remember me," it ends with "Always and Forever Beloved."

Which ending do you like better? What do you think?

i like the first ending, the one that is there...the tongue likes that "twisted lover/forever" sound...works well...
we tend to fear death, but maybe we should welcome it as a friend.

this got me thinking of emily dickinson's "because i could not stop for death, he kindly stopped for me/ the carriage held but just ourselves and immortality"--the kind, gentleman caller, not the grim reaper.

and what will we all leave to this earth as legacy as a will....our poetry...and we can only hope it will be respected, and in the long run we will be remembered for our writing...at least it proves our existence meant something lasting.

really like this poem.

I thought I was back to sleep of prisoners for a while there becuase it did have that touch of meandering through a foggy, searching yet not finding thinking yet not developing feeling. And although you let us know a few (factual) ideas to me was the thickness in the air atmosphere that carried any of the ideas. So when it gets to the reflective moment of calling "Mother moon" i did feel as something had been found although I am not certain wha that is. "Where are you making for? It takes
So many thousand years to wake,But will you wake for pity's sake! " sort of thing.

I should have taken a flash light with me

Thankyou

"Look to Mother Moon
Remember me,
Forever and Always Beloved. "
The poem felt like a personal journey. I like the internal thoughts and the lines above. Memory is our downfall. Leave us wishing and hoping for things we have lost. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Liliana,

"And if tonight/In the thickness of cigarette smoke/I should meet an old friend/I will ask for one more drink before I go/I will paint my lips crimson/Kiss your pillow/And hope that you forgive me"--these are hauntingly beautiful lines... they make me remember things best left forgotten (as all good poetry should do). The last stanza is a little confusing to me, though no less beautiful. I seems more real than iffy--I don't know why. I don't have the clearest head at the moment (migraine) so it' probably just me.

Overall this is a rich and powerfully written piece. It has some very good lines. The simile about a relationship, soured like old milk is such a good one, I may use it on someone just for the fun of it. It exactly fits the taste and small and chunky feel I've had at the end of some of mine... Excellent job. I look forward to reading more of your work.

P.S. I'd make this a 1.15 line spacing (or similar) your words carry more than enough weight without the gravitas of length and it's just easier to read.

I'm looking to get to know you as well!
I enjoyed how you transformed a mundane task like pumping gas by infusing it with deep musings about its broader implications and, more importantly, allowing love to find a place in it. I'm looking forward to reading more of your work.
