A Poem by Charlotte e.e. Griffiths

I have closed my

eyes to similar

sights and I walk

among smoked streets

I do not know in

what I hope is

the direction

of blue rivers running

wild with

will and

sunsets collided into

portraits on

canvas once

clear.

I really appreciate the way your formatting allows the poem / the different words to carry different meanings according to how they are paired. There’s a sense that this is one thought stretching down the page, but when read more carefully, slowly, the multiplicity of it comes through.

Like the mind itself shifting between thoughts and states. Words can be so many things depending on context and contact.

Love the idea that ‘hope is the direction of blue rivers running wild,’ but also how that is juxtaposed beside ‘I do not know in what I hope.’

Great poetry here. Really enjoyed the reading.

Great rhythm. "Blue rivers running wild with will" is real sharp.
