Shadows Within

A Story by Serina

Horror,suspense story.

"Someone please! Let me out!" A woman's sharps pleads came from across the hall. Serina's
eyes instantly open and she wonders where she is. She feels that her arm is heavy. Serina looks over and sees her coat on her arm

"Oh...that's right.. I fell asleep on the way to the hospital." She lifted herself up and went towards the screaming. Her mother was in a nother room so Serina wanted to quiet that screaming woman. She got to the room and saw a frail, old woman with white curly hair that went down to her shoulders.

"Who... are you?" asked the woman. This woman was in the hospital because her son wouldn't take care of her. She was very sick so he said that she was a burden. Even though he sounds cruel, he has a family of three and an ex-wife who doesn't want her children. I guess everyone has their own problems they need to deal with.

Serina walked to the woman's bedside. She stood there a momennt and then leaned closer to the womahn's face. Suddenly, her eyes turned a blood red color and the woman looked out of breath.

"I don't like noisy humans like you, so I'd adivse you to shut your mouth before I permanently seal it."

As soon as she got the last word out, Serina's mother came bursting through the door. Serina's eytes instantly returned to her normal dark brown eyes and she quickly backed away from the woman.

"Serina, you're not supposed to wander around. Now get over here and leave that lady alone!" Her mother was always trying to discipline her, but of course, Serina couldn't be.

Serina walked over to her mother and glanced back at the old woman. This time, it was a sweet and innocent smile. Then, she walked away.

"That girl... she has the soul.. of a demon!" the woman started crying and screaming. A nurse walked towards Serina and her mother.

"Oh, please don't listen to the Margret. She just wants people to pay attention to her. I'm very sorry," said the nurse.

Her mother was talking to the nurse so Serina decided to walk to the car first. As she got outside, she began to giggle.

"Hahahaha, crazy old woman. Well that's what she gets for being so loud." She got into the car and waited for her mom to come out. Five minutes pass... twelve minutes pass... twenty minutes pass and Serina is getting extremely annoyed.

"For crying out loud! Where is Helen?" Yes,she calls her mom by her first name.Then Helen finally came out looking all happy and joyful?

"Oh geez,what's with all the happiness?It's making me gag!" Serina complained.

"Don't start with me Serina.I just got a date with the nurse I was talking to." Helen said,while smiling so brightly her teeth looked like diamonds.

Serina was silent the rest of the way home. When they got home she went to her roo. Her walls were white,her bed was baby blue,her desk,her mirror,and her dresser were all wood painted black.She plopped on her bed and she stared at the ceiling.

"So..Helen's found a boyfriend..I'll have to fix that.And I think I'll tease this one.Just to make Helen suffer." These were the thoughts going through Serina's head.

That night, Helen made angel-hair pasta and used the good plates. Yeah, that means her boyfriend was coming for dinner. You'd think that serina would mind but...she's looking forward to having entertainment for tonight.

"Hey! Thanks for coming! So glad you came!" Helen's voice was bubbly and disgusting.

"Yeah, no problem. I wanted to meet with you." The nurse dude replied. Yeah I said nurse dude

"Good God, this is going to make killing this guy even better." Serina muttered to herself.

As they were eating dinner, Serina thought of a nice trick to play. She closed her eyes so her mom wouldn't see the color change and she made Anthoney (the nurse) throw up all of his dinner. He ran to the sink and puked for 5 minutes before coughing up blood. Helen was worried so she held Anthoney's hand. At the dinner table, Serina was trying not to laugh out loud but little giggles escaped her mouth.Luckily, Helen was busy. She didn't notice the giggling.

"If they think it's bad now...just wait until they go to sleep." Serina though.

Since Anthoney lives alone, Helen thought it would be best if he'd stay at their house.This was just what Serina wanted.

It was 10:32 and Helen was sleeping in her room while Anthoney slept on the couch in the living room.

Serina went into the living room and stood there looking with her peircing red eyes at Anthoney. She's already messed with him physically. Now it's time to mess with him mentally. She would enter his dreams. If everything works out...he might not even wake up.
In The Dream...

Anthoney was just waking up and as he pulled off the covers there wre drops of blood trickling down his arms from the slit in his neck. He tried to scream but he was soon choking on all the blood that was coming up from his neck. Then slashes appeared on his legs.They looked like claw marks. The blood coming from his body just wouldn't stop!

"AHHHHHH!"

"Anthoney! Wake up!"

Helen had heard Anthoney screaming from her room.Serina was nowhere in sight. Well, to their sights anyway. She was hidden at the outside of the kitchen door.

"Wow! I didn't think that he'd actually scream that loud. HaHaHaHaHa. The fun has just started now. Sweet Dreams Anthoney." Serina whispered to herself.

The next morning, Serina got up early to set the breakfast table. Helen was still asleep and Anthoney was in the bathroom.Serina decided that today would be a special day. This was going to be the anniversary of Anthoney's painful death.

She secretly snuck into the bathroom and hid behind a shower curtain.

"Time to say goodbye Anthoney." Serina whispered.
He was looking into the mirror above the sink. Serina was going to do this nice and slowly. There's no need to rush anyway.

Suddeny a small cut appeared on his face. It blad a bit. He just stood in the front of the mirror, and watched the blood trickle down his cheek, not moving an inch. Then, a needle came out of nowhere and went deep into his arm.He clenched his fists and he still didn't scream. Serina was fustrated that he wasn't screaming yet. She always liked to hear her victims scream.

"Well if he isn't going to scream now, then he won't be able to scream for the rest of this." Serina saw a razor blade on teh sink. It lifted up and scraped his lips. They were bleeding badly. His face was expressionless.

"I...know...Serina..." Anthoney managed to say these words and then he wouldn't talk anymore.
Serina was in total shock and she was unable to think.

"How? How does he know? I've never been seen by him while doing these things. Why does he know?" All of these questions were racing through her mind. She didn;t want him staying alive while knowing what she was.She slit his throut with the razor and it gushed out blood. she was still trying to figure out how he found her out.

Serina left the bathroom and went to wake up Helen.

"Helen, get up. I'm hungry." Serina said.

"Alright, alright." Helen replied.

Helen went to teh kitchen and got out glasses. Then she went into the living room to wake Anthoney. She didn't see him and then...she went to check in the bathroom. She knocked on the door. There was no answer. Then...she slowly opened the door...

"AHHHH!!! Serina don't come in here!" Helen slammed the door and quickly ran to the phone. She called the police and they arrived in five minutes.

"Ma'am, I want you and your child to stay somewhere else while we investigate this." The officer went into the bathroom and he gasped.

On the bathroom mirror, writen in Anthoney's blood...was Serina's name. Serina stood at the door and stared at her name. She knew what this was. And it was trying to get her.

She figured out that Anthoney wasn't really...human. He was a soul reaper and she fell right into his trap. Now that she's killed him, other soul reapers will sense it and will want to finish his job. soul reapers have human auras so she can't tell when there's one around her. she has to be extremly careful now. Anybody around her could be wanting to kill her. She can't let anyone get close to her.

Serina and her mother went to stay at a friend's house. Serina's friend was named Natsume. He is the only person who knows everything about her. Even though he's just a human, Serina trusts him.

"Rina, (Natsume calls her Rina for short) you killed him didn't you?" he asked.

"Why do you care? He was after me! How am I not going to kill him?" She replied.

"You really are headstrong. No wonder you're a demon." He joked.

"Well now I'm really in fot it. There'll be about 3 other sou reapers after me."

"Don't worry Rina. I'll protect you!"

"Umm...sorry Natsu but, you wouldn't last 1 minute in a battle against them."

"Yeah Serina, go ahead and put down the guy who's trying to be nice to you."
She giggled and then they turned out the lights and went to sleep.He slept on the floor and she slept in his bed.
About 11:17 at night...

"I'll get her tonight."

Serina opened her eyes a bit and saw that Natsume was at the window and there was a dark figure standing outside the window.

Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain on her right arm. She opened her eyes and saw Natsume. He had cut her with a knife. It was bleeding a bit. She jolted upward and stared at him.

"Natsu? You..."

"Yes Rina! I'm a soul reaper. I'm sorry...I have to kill you."

Serina got up and ran out of the house. Because she was running the cut started dripping more blood.Then it started to rain.She saw a burned down abandoned house. she ran into it and went into a small room.The roof was leaking in some places so Serina sat in the corner of the room.

"How could Natsume be a reaper? Well, even though I can't sense it...but why didn't he kill me when we met?"

"That's because I stalled off your killings." Natsume suddly apeared at the door.
Serina got up and her eyes turned.

"I don't ant to fight you Natsu.But tell me, why are you trying to kill me now?"

"Anthoney..was...my brother.You killed my brother Serina." Natsume said in a very cold voice.He seemed like a different person.

Serina gasped and started moving towards Natsume.

"I..I..,didn't know..Natsume,I'm so sorry..but, I don't regret doing what I did."

Natsume backed away from her and he stood there.Looking at her with eyes filled with hatred,greif,saddness,and hesitation.

" Then, I won't regret killing you either."

He pulled a knife and threw it at her face. She caught it when it was only a centimeter away from her face.She grabbed it and made it dissapear. Suddenly,it stabbed Natsume in the leg and he let out a small scream.

"I see, then this is a death match." said Natsume.

After saying that, Srina heard creaking under her. she looked down and saw that the nails holding the floor together werecoming out.she tried to move but then 5 nails had sunken into her legs.They wre bleeding badly. The cut on her arm was in pain but she couldn't worry about that now.

"Why Serina? Why do we have to fight? I don't like this."

"What,what are you saying? Who's the one who tried to murder me while I was sleeping? Who's the freaking person who's trying to kill me right now? Are you serious you freak?!"

Serina looked at his face. She stared into his eyes. Thne, a single tear fell down his face. He got out another knife.

"Serina, I'll miss you."

"What...what are you saying?"

Suddenly, Natsume slashed his own throat! He fell to the ground. There was a puddle of blood around him. Natsume killed himself.

Serina ran to him. She bent down and looked at him. He really was someone she could trust,and maybe even care about. She knew that little noy Natsu wouldn't have the guts to do this. He proved her wrong.

"Natsu? I'll miss you too,you idiot human." A pure tear of blood rean down her cheek. She touched her face.

"Why? What is this? Am I...crying?" Serina was very puzzled.

All of a sudden, and extreme pain shot through her stomach. Serina looked down. There was a pure silver sword. She's been stabbed from behind. With her already bad wounds, she couldn't handle it. She still had enough energy to turn around and she'd seen who it was. It was a woman? Sh couldn't clearly see.Then she saw that it was...Helen? As soon as she figured this out, Serina collasped on top of Natsume's bady. She was gone.
