Baby Sister

Baby Sister

A Poem by AlexandreaLynn

She looked at me

with adoring eyes.

I held her

she was my baby,

my baby sister.

She had a scrape on her knee.

I carefully took a bandage

kissed the wound

and placed it gentaly on her.

She smiled.

I would do anything for that smile.

we stood up

I asked her what she wanted,

to get her mind off of the pain,

she simply said,"Nothing."

I told her that there must have been one thing she wanted.

Then she said,"All I want to do is make my big sissy proud of me."

I started to cry.

She wanted me of all people to be proud of her

When i always was.

I would look to her for comfort

before my own boyfriend.

She was my sunshine.

I would always think of her needs

before my own.

Ever since she was born

every one has loved her.

For that I was jealous of her.

But now it just makes me more happy

to be her sister.

She is my pride and joy

she is my baby sister.

My one suggestion is to watch how you use tense. There is a portion of the poem written in past tense. It made me think that possibly the speaker's baby sister was no longer with us. I am glad that she is. All in all, good job ... powerful and moving.
