Manchildren

Manchildren

A Poem by Faith Almazan

It's over just like that.
The flame that flickers back
and forth-- he loves the last attack.
Resentment builds; it's tit for tat.

You lose your love keeping score.
Vindictive bite.
Hearts on the floor.
Push and pull.
That tug o' war.

When he gives up,
She wants it more.

Her tears dry up.
She's in control.
He wants her back,
His woman scorned.

He begs and pleads,
Compliments and adores her,
"It's you I need."
His empty words simply bore her.

If she gives in
then what would happen
if she doesn't behave
like he imagined
her to be, so what does that mean
that he could walk
and leave her racking
her brain, and start attacking
her self worth
and feel abandoned.
Or let go now
and send him packing.
