I Once...

I Once...

A Poem by EdenHarper

I once found a sparrow in the garden

Its wing was bent its eyes were glazed

For this small friend I couldn’t pardon

A life not full of days

I once saw tomcat on the prowl

Body a network of scars

I saw no hope for the running afoul

To them everyday replays

I once glanced a butterfly in a net

Envied appearance caught in a web

A most fitting analogy as yet

The world seeks to douse the rays

I once saw a man upon a tree

There was a terrible beauty of the scene

As there rang out one last plea

He was saving all the strays

A life not full of days

To them everyday replays

The world seeks to douse the rays

He was saving all the strays
