Midas is a Fool

Midas is a Fool

A Poem by librarycat
"

Greed gets you nothing but fool's gold.

"

To be a needy man is to be a curse,

To be a greedy man is to be a fool.

I’d rather be a cursed man.

The needy man remains unnamed,

While the greedy man is well known.

Strangers look at him ashamed,

But they bow to Him on his throne.

A needy man doomed to poverty,

Whether by chance or strife,

Mentored to see perspective

on the richness in life.

He observes the community

From the shade under a tree,

discovering humanity,

A lesson learned free.

A greedy man is rotten,

With a worm deep in his core.

All of his wants were gotten

Yet he demanded more.

He glared down from his hill,

“Take all of it, even the dust.”

His world turned gold, forever still,

Guilt tarnishing Him to a pyrite colored rust.

The needy man was cursed with nothing, yet never became cruel

But the greedy man had it all and made himself a fool.

All reviews welcome! I am not sure if rhyming every other line is too cliche? I was trying out a new writing style so please give feedback :)
