MAYFLOWER

MAYFLOWER

A Poem by V
"

Life will always throw you a a curve.

"

He met me on a sunny day in July

A few miles south of McGrath  highway

I was hitching a ride, so he pulled to the side

Said darling, I'm going your way;

He put his arm around me

As we headed down the line

Asked me where I was going

And I said anywhere is fine;

Told him my name was Veronica

Said I was a highway child

traveling here and traveling there

Like the wind I was free and wild;

We spent the night together

Making Love to the rhythm of the rain

Told me he was on his way home

And wanted me to join him in Maine;

I said, "I am a Mayflower

Darling don't you know

That a Mayflower

Can't grow in the snow";

It took some convincing

But finally I agreed

Thinking only of the present

Forgetting about my need;

We rode the roads of Summer

And everything was fine

But when the fall set in

He felt me start to decline;

My smile lost it's shine

And my eyes lost their glow

Said, I felt like the last Rose of Summer

Soon to be covered in snow

Now he stands by my grave

With his eyes full of tears

With the words I once spoke

Still echoing in his ears;

I'm a Mayflower

Darling don't you know

That a Mayflower

Can't grow in the snow.
