Neverland

Neverland

A Poem by josh lawdermilt
"

A poem about losing the innocence of our childhood.

"

Second star to the right
And straight on till morning
Our childhood leaves us
Without any warning

And soon we are grown up
With a job and a home
And in someway or another
We feel all alone

We miss the bygone days of old,
Of making joy from mundane
When someone would tickle us
And turn laughter to pain

And now we’ve no joy
Instead we’re appalled
To see a child running naked
With no shame at all

We cover them up
And maybe give them a whack
All the while they’re wondering
“Why can’t I do that?”

“What’s wrong feeling freedom?”
“And just what’s so wrong
About belting out proudly
Our favoritest song?”

What killed our innocence?
Who brought us this shame?
I’m sorry to say, my friend
But we’ve ourselves to blame.
