Memory

Memory

A Poem by Libby McKeown

There is a memory of you

I wish I had.

You look at me

with the hope of every little girl

and ask, ever so sweetly,

if you can stay up

just a little longer.

Sure, I say,

and you smile sleepily

and lie back in my arms.

I promise to fight your every battle,

and wipe your every tear.

At least that's how I remember it.

So sad but so close to reality. I understand the feeling of telling a story and yet not being sure if what you remembered is actually what happened. You've depicted just how bittersweet and tricky memories could be.

Keep Writing. ^____^

a lovely remembrance, tinged with the sadness of what might be or what might have been . . . wonderful to read you

confusion reigns; I
remember tomorrow, forgetting
yesterday.

Your brilliant poem inspired my attempt at haiku. Z
