She had to have

She had to have

A Poem by Libby McKeown

She had to have

just one more shot.

The phone rang,

and I ran

to meet her,

and she was there,

casual and undefeated

like she always was,

only now,

she was missing a leg.

I was ready

with words,

and knowing looks.

Before any tears

she replied:

now shaving

only takes half the time.

Aww, I think I've felt this way before. Feeling so awful about someone else's misfortune, and then being so ready to tell them how bad you feel and it turns out that they don't even think of it that way, or at least they won't show you that they do. They stay strong. And find the humor. Because that makes misfortune easier to deal with for some.

Very nice, sad but enlightening.

This is wonderful- you turned something horrible into something silly. Very good job, again!

always better to look at the positive side . . .

especially when we've had to have just one more shot.

This is wonderful, can't believe no one has left a comment.
