Broken Promises

Broken Promises

A Poem by Lauren
"

City of Memphis took away the healthcare and benefits of the Retired Police men and women as well as retired Firemen. Something has to change.

"

We all start our day, and live our daily lives;
While others start their day, praying to stay alive.
Some complain all day, of how they hate their job;
While the ones who work the hardest, had their Health and benefits robbed.
If the city council, spent one day in their shoes,

they would take back their decision, before it came unglued.
They should be the ones now, to put out all the fires,

since they're the ones who broke a promise, to all the ones retired.
How could we support someone, or even our own city,

when not once we were important, or showed remorse or pity.
Apparently they didn't think, of all the families this would affect,

or the measures some would go, to say I object.
Everyday they risk, their lives for you and me,
Maybe when it's you they're saving, MAYBE THEN you will agree.

Oh my gosh! You're spot on there!

NOTES:
I think this would flow and have more impact if you broke each line into two, and created couplets (or broke the lines and set them out in stanzas).
