Half My AgeA Poem by Lloyd LofthouseparentingHalf My Age
He peed on me
At three
When the pool
Divorced at three
During the in-between years
“That’s child abuse,”
In high school,
Weeknight phone calls,
The high school staged ruled
“Mom, I will buy
Kicked out of three schools,
“Step-dad,
A few months of college.
Car wrecks
Recovering from a burst appendix
How could I?.
That’s the last time I saw
After the divorce,
She painted him
My brush ran dry.
