Real Love

Real Love

A Poem by Lexi

All it took was one simple smart remark from my mouth
You snapped
My eye was black
Terrified
I kept quiet
He didn't mean it? Did he?
It was just an accident
He loves me
But then it happened again
And again
Over and over
It became the new norm
"I do this because I love you"
But this isn't love
But if I leave, what will he do?
I can't
I need to stay
I love him, I really do
But this isn't love

That night I made my escape
He was caught in the act
Blue and red flashing
Sirens coming from every direction
Handcuffs
It was done
I was free
But was I really free?
No
The memories
The pain
The pictures
Not being able to trust
Haunting me everyday

Yeah, sure I miss him
But I miss the old him
But I deserve better
I deserve the world
I deserve real love
