blank canvas

blank canvas represents loss of innocence and the scars that can be left after one's ability to consent is taken away.

blank canvas

my favorite color is black

not because of the color

but because of the lack of color

i was once a blank canvas

ready to be painted by the world

you were almost too eager 

to bring color to my canvas

unfortunately

you brought all the wrong colors

your paint was a poison to my canvas

my canvas begged for mercy

for you were no artist

all the areas of white were covered

they were covered with bright reds

deep purples and blues

that could not be scrubbed away with time

so i covered my shameful canvas

with an absence of color

because even the prettiest of colors

can ruin a painting.

Powerful. Absolutely speaks to the parts of us that are lost by the evil intent of others. This was a very strong and emotional piece of poetry. A miasma of bright glorious colors do not make a beautiful portrait, they can destroy it. This was not easy to read because of its truth and emotional impact of the message.
