Don't Kid Yourself

High School can be frustrating sometimes.... There are so many labels and broken friendships. This is a poem that describes that. Sorry, It's pretty long :)

There is a mix of emotions,

Where I should be happy,

I feel abandoned,

Confused.

The emptiness feels physical,

A hollow spot in my chest,

Aching ever so slightly,

If only I knew why.

I see the faces of old friends,

Changed and morphed into something,

Different than before almost beyond recognition,

Morphed and misconstrued. 

The once broken soul,

The "emo" if you will,

Only looking for attention,

For someone to see him beyond his scars.

The quiet soul I once knew,

He's now into drugs,

He says his new friends are "cool",

Do those drugs give you the love you so desperately needed?

A friend who moved on,

She's unrecognizable, 

with her bleached out hair,

and look at me attitude.

She follows the crowd,

Afraid of the hurt,

She's been told what to do her whole life,

Are you proud of her yet?

I see my best friend,

but she barely greets me,

getting hit up by guys, 

and complimented for being "original".

She's having the time of her life,

I guess I don't fit the part,

Her "hipster" friends glare at me,

Do you know that her past is haunting her?

Then there's me,

The "smart" one,

The "lucky" one,

That's what you think?

My life is wonderful,

I can't complain,

But you must be so dumb,

You think the "perfect" girl never feels pain.

What do I think? I think this is a really good piece with clear expression and I can relate, too. the 'good girl' who never got noticed - come to think of it, I'm still her! you have a lot of compassion and a need to be seen and heard. don't change who you are and keep writing. you're good.
