Love is Love

When I was younger, first grade or so
My sister was in love with another girl, you know.

They were going to get married with a happy-ever-after, too!
But the state said "No, that simply won't do."

They were so upset,who could be so cruel?
Why would anyone create such a rule?

My sister tried to explain to me what few believe to be true
"Some people are against love between two girls or boys,but we have to fight and push through."

She taught me something I had never known before.
It could be a boy or girl when love comes knocking at your door.

I told her that she had to fight back and tell them love is ok,
it doesn't matter your sexuality, or if you're strait, bi, or gay.

For some princes, there's a princess, others there's a prince.
She found a girl she loves and she's been with her ever since.

I grabbed my pen and paper, and I started to write,
I wrote about my sister's love, I wanted to help them see the light.

Not soon after they wrote back, saying they needed more voice than one.
More than one to say "Love is Love", or the case would be done.

My mother had a smart idea, we would start a petition,
We went out into the streets and called everyone we knew, we had so much ambition!

After a while we had so many signatures, so we wrote to our state again,
We sent them our petition and demanded it be read

They had no choice but to make gay marriage legal and fair,
When this news started to spread, we started to see smiles everywhere!

Not soon after, my sister got married, she looked so beautiful on her wedding day,
It was so sweet when she and her bride both through the bouquet

They got their happily-ever-after, and one day I'll get mine!
Because I know that love doesn't leave anyone behind.
