Seagulls

Seagulls

A Poem by Marc

A single picnic table
Sits along the breakwater
Thieves Bay, Pender Island
Sunshine has broken through
The morning clouds
It's warm rays dissipating puddles
Left behind from the evening's rain
Ferries and sailboats drift by
Oblivious to my existence
Floating onward
To where rainbows end
Leaving a wake
Sliding to the seawall
And fritters away
Into the vast saltiness of the ocean
While seagulls embrace
The safety of a solitary floating log
Drifting out to sea
From last night's storm
A sailboat reaches the wind
... I've got nothing to do today
But smile

That line floating log.... Should it be "solitary" not solitude? Because if you want to use singular solitude there you may not want the image muddled with plural seagulls.... Food for thought. Fritters? Hmmmmm. Imagery was clear up to fritters. Perhaps I am harder on this one because your free form is usually more sentimental. Though of course the ending is you through and through ;)

Merci. vous me connaissez trop bien!
"...I've got nothing to do today

Well you have left me smiling here as well from this write of yours. I like the simple title, and the beautiful descriptive imagery. It's like you took me to the scene, and I can feel the relaxation of the day. A wonderful feeling with nature when it gives you that alive carefree kind of feeling. Beautiful write. Love it and really enjoyed it.
Love these parts:
"Sunshine has broken through
The morning clouds
It's warm rays dissipating puddles
Left behind from the evening's rain
Ferries and sailboats drift by
Oblivious to my existence"

"Into the vast saltiness of the ocean
While seagulls embrace
The safety of a solitude floating log
Drifting out to sea
From last night's storm"
