Steps, Street & Souls

Steps, Street & Souls

A Poem by Lepadah

I walk each day seems like a million steps up/down stairs
Cross sidewalks
Kick rocks
Skip/hop over broken cement streets
Eyes don't meet
Strangers sneak a spry eye
Swiping bodies collide during morning rush hour
The lights inside subway tunnels I look forward to seeing
I don't know why
Blue/white
White/blue
Blue/white
White/blue
It's dark I want a snapshot
The stillness after the crowd has disappeared like rats into their appropriate holes
I like hearing the steel wheels screeching against the rails
Leaving the air stiff
An occasional brisk blow against my face
I stand bemuse
Refuse to board the next train
I like this rutted space
