black

black

A Poem by Jason Buskey

i looked
and saw
nothing
the
distance
continued
and
it seemed
just
out of
reach

soon
i held it
in my
hands
until
the
numbness
left me
then
folded it
neatly
into
smaller
pieces
that fit
into my
pocket

when
i tried
to show
them
to you
they
were
gone

i held
them
tightly
until
my fists
turned
red
and
your
eyes
said
yes
