Fear

Fear

A Poem by Lilac Lemon

You got me in handcuffs and threw away the key,

Holding me hostage in your castle of thorn-shaped dreams.

Lord give me some relief,

A moment of peace,

A place where I can sleep.

Heaven knows the price won’t be cheap.

Look me in the goddamn eye when you talk to me.

Your words like knives don’t shake me.

I am stronger than your ocean current is deep,

And nothing you say can end me.

For I am the morning sun,

I rise every time.

I am the spring, the phoenix,

The view after stepping into the sublime.

I take my chances, because I’ve never failed to find

That you forget about that spare key,

Tossed and lost in a place far, far from your mind.

And I promise you, once free from these shackles,

Like always, darling,

I will fly.
