The Mind Of James

James walked into the small restaurant for lunch. Taking a seat the waiter came with bread, the menu, and some utensils and asking the usual questions.

 

“What can I get you?”

“Coke”

“Ok ill get it in a minute”

“Wait you forgot Max”

“Um, ya ok”

The waiter left with a confused look on your face.

“She wants to hurt you, James”

“No she is nice; she is even bringing you a drink”

“That’s what you said about Mary, you remember Mary don’t you James”

“You never let me forget it, quiet she coming”

The waiter returned with two drinks and set them down to take his order.

“What would you like to eat?”

“A cheese Burger”

“Ok anything else”

“What do you want Max”

“The same”

“He wants the same”

“Um um oh a that’s two cheese burgers then”

“Thanks you”

The waiter left her eyes fearful as she walked into the kitchen.

“I told Max”

“I don’t trust her”

“She got you a drink and now a burger, remembers all those other waiters just laughed at you and didn’t bring anything”

“She maybe nice but those two men over there looks bad”

“Stop it Max, you just want a problem”

“Do I”

“Yes you do, you always do”

“I’m here to protect you James, you remember on he train don’t you, all those men with the big vest trying to hurt you and take to the dark room”

“Why do you always bring up the bad stuff Max, Why?”

“Those men look like them don’t they?”

James looks up to see the two men staring at him, embarrassed they look back at there food.

“They do, Max I’m scared”

“Don’t worry James; I have an idea to get rid of them”

“You are always there for me Max, how can I doubt you”

“Look when they get up to leave fallow them to there car”

“Then what?”
“ Stab them with this knife”

“Max, Mr. John said no more hurting people”

“JAMES, I am trying to protect you, this world it’s either them or you, ok so listen to me before it becomes you”

“Max, please, please, please I don’t want to do it alone, I’m scared”

“I’ll be there with you, don’t worries, Ill always be there for you”

The two men pay there bill and get up to leave, James about to follow them till the waiter appears telling him he needs to pay.

“You need to pay for this”

“Ok here is a thirty, keep the change”

The waiter shocked left him to go, James crept up behind the two men and stabbed them in there backs.

“Max, what did I do, those aren’t then men in the blue vests, and I’m scared Max, what do I do”

“Run come one quickly before anyone sees us”

“Ok fine, why did I listen to you?”

They kept running till they got to a closed park, where kids played everywhere. The two tried to find an exit but they had no luck.

“Max, why did you make do this, huh, I thought you were my friend”

“I am your friend, those men wanted you dead, and don’t you understand”

“I am not stupid, I’m scared, I hate being scared, I HATE IT”

A little boy walks up to James with a ball in his hands.

“Who are you talking to?”

“What do you mean who am I talking to, are you blind, he is right here”

“There is no one there”

“Yes there is, go away”

“Are you crazy, because my mom says people who talk to themselves are crazy?”

“He wants to hurt you James, you have to do something”

“No Max, he’s a little kid, I can’t, I don’t wanna”

“See there is no one there you are crazy”

“Kill him James, KILL him now”

“NO, I won’t hurt him”

“Damn it James, he wants to hurt you, he is calling you crazy”

“He, he, he doesn’t understand”

“I’m your friend, not him, stand up for me”

“Um Mr., what are you talking about”

 “I, I, I’m sorry kid, but he was my friend first”

With that he stabbed the boy and let him drop to the floor. It only took seconds before the security guards to see this and go after him.

“See Max, the blue vests are chasing me because of what I did”

“I am your fiend, I know what’s best for you, and they’ll just send you to the white room again, and you’ll be out again”

“Do you promise Max?”

“I swear James, you and I are will never be separated.”

In case you didn't get it James is a schizophrenia and Max is in his head.

I like these kinds of stories--where the character's a crazy. Crazy adds a nice twist that I like to stories. :3 Well done! I realize most of it is supposed to be dialogue, but it wouldn't hurt to describe the setting a tad bit more.

I loved the concept in your story and the dialogue drove it forward! I was on the edge of my seat as I wondered what James was going to do next. Not only that but it was very creative.
